Oh look, Ben and I are still alive! HALLO WORLD!
I don't know a good way to begin this so I am just jumping into it. Ben and I spent June writing heart rending books, with more heart rends to follow. With NaNo coming up we have even more pain to write, and we therefore had the delightful idea of co-Authoring a FUN book together. (FUN! No pain, no deaths, just insane, random adventures. And we are here to tell you about it!)
This is going to be a Space/Steampunk book! It will feature two girls with boy names and a makeshift hot air balloon that can travel among the stars. I call it the 'Space-alloon.' *grin* We do have a roughish plot, though it is very lose. The basic idea is that one of the girls, Ben, has her Uncle abducted in space and she and Jim, the other girl, decide to take a bold step and go after him. (See what we did there, with the names? *Sherlock leer*)
The uncle is kidnapped by OCD space pirates who eat square food. Most of the book is going to be Jim and Ben traveling around in the space-alloon (stole you're name there, Ben) and getting into silly adventures at the places they stop. Such as a planet where everyone suffers memory loss. Each morning when they wake they have no idea what happened the day before.
They will have many odd little companions before the end of it. Such as a squeaky robot rabbit who insists on following them about and a parrot who only knows how to say one word. Cheese! Because of their odd choice of company Ben and Jim get into a lot more trouble then they would if they were on their own. Of course some of the predicaments they find themselves in are simply because they are them and trouble seems to haunt them wherever they go. It comes from being girls with boy's names.
It is going to be a lot of fun to write, and hopefully read. We're both excited to start it. It is kind of hard to wait, doubly so because we both have painful books we have to get through before it. Right now we are consoling ourselves with plotting and coming up with new ideas and mishaps to put the girls through.
At the moment we do have a working title for the book, and though it could always change I think we will probably keep the one we have. We've christened it "Practically Impossible." because most of what happens should be impossible. But they are on an unknown world in an unknown time in an unknown place so we can get away with a lot. We can even get away with Fish in Space. Great big, shiny fish.
Because, one can't have sailing and not have fish. There would be nothing to fish! And if that doesn't make you want to read it, the fact that Ben and Jim have to patch up their balloon with bits of table cloth should.
Also, Jim and Ben are very unique in the fact that they are space adventurers in Victorian clothing and say things like "He was a pompous idiot," or "It was a ridiculous notion. Ben was appalled," and we will probably use words like Carriwitchet. We are going to go ALL OUT on this book. And we might have small moments of 'eep, what is happening???" like in Tintin, but nothing sad or traumatizing. It will just be a happy, light adventure with a bunch of random impossibilities.
TADA! Fun, right? Can't wait to read it, right? Good. Because what a better way to spend an afternoon with two girls and a space-alloon? And a pirate and squeaky rabbit.
Bye y'all! Stay tuned for more! *slides off car*
*Jumps out of a plane*
